We invite everyone in our church and community to join us in a season of prayer for evangelism! Each week we will present a prayer focus and Scriptures.
Do you find it hard to receive mercy or to show mercy to others? What about those who do not deserve it? When we think that we or other people must deserve mercy in order to receive it, then we mistakenly believe that God’s love and mercy are based on merit rather than grace. Brother Roger, founder of the Taize Christian community, prayed this: “Jesus, our heart’s joy, you enable all who live by your forgiveness and compassion to sense the greatest of all certainties: where there is mercy, God is there.”
Lamentations 3:22-23: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Matthew 5:7: Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Matthew 9:13: Go and learn what this means: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
Titus 3:5: He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
May you be merciful, and may you receive mercy,
